Yeo Hiap Seng Limited (Yeo’s) is a 120-year-old local heritage brand that strives to be an employer of choice by creating a meaningful employee experience so that our people can continuously grow and thrive. Despite the diverse challenges we faced during the pandemic, the company remains steadfast in ramping up initiatives to keep our workforce engaged.

Majority of the initiatives below were launched/improved over the last 18 months.

1. Employee Engagement

  • Virtual Group CEO Dialogue Session
    As remote working became a norm during the pandemic, we introduced Virtual Group CEO dialogue sessions, which served as an excellent two-way platform for our employees to directly engage with our Leadership Team. It provided them an opportunity to connect and candidly share their thoughts or challenges they might have been facing at work. Our employees applauded this initiative, as they felt valued and appreciated knowing they are being listened to. It also served as a strong testament of our Leadership Team’s commitment to the welfare of our employees.
  • Sharing on Fridays
    Sharing on Fridays is a quarterly session for our employees to glean valuable and beneficial insights from our senior leaders and subject matter experts. Sessions are held on a virtual platform and conducted in a casual format to encourage two-way dialogue.
  • Group CEO Townhall
    We launched the Group CEO Townhall in March 2020 as a platform for our Leadership Team to share business updates and company’s milestones with all our employees. In addition to hearing from our Leadership Team, our employees can also submit their questions in advance, which will be addressed by the leaders directly during the Q&A session.
  • Yeo’s Newsletter – Yeo’s PULSE
    Yeo's PULSE, our quarterly internal newsletter, serves as an important platform to keep our employees across the globe updated on key events and happenings in our various offices. It helps to bind and connect our people.
  • Yeo’s GEM Award
    Our Yeo's GEM (Going the Extra Mile) Award is to recognize and reward our employees who display exemplary dedication within the company. Winners of the GEM Award are rewarded with a card signed off personally by our Group CEO, a special gift as well as attractive gift vouchers. They are also recognized and appreciated during our Group CEO Townhalls and featured in our Yeo’s PULSE Newsletter.
  • Employee Engagement Survey
    We launched our first Employee Engagement Survey in March 2021 to provide employees an avenue to give their open and honest feedback. Following the completion of the survey where we saw a high participation rate of 91% across all offices which provided valuable feedback to work on.

2. Benefits

  • Improved Employee Insurance Coverage
    Yeo’s provides a comprehensive and competitive health insurance to our team. They also enjoy flexi-benefits which give them greater flexibility in supporting a healthy lifestyle. This year, we upgraded our insurance coverage and provided an improved user experience app.
  • Yeo’s Goodness Benefit Program
    Employees are entitled to an annual credit of $150 which they can use to redeem Yeo’s beverages at staff prices and share the goodness of Yeo’s products with their family and friends. It remains one of the most popular incentives introduced.
  • Staff Canteen
    Our canteen offers employees subsidized prices for meals for the convenience of our production team. Upcoming next are plans to spruce up the canteen for our people!
  • Birthday and Healthy Lifestyle Leave
    A well-received incentive where employees are not only entitled to a day of paid leave in their birthday month, but they also receive a $50 voucher. Employees with encouraging MC records are rewarded with additional leave days.

3. Learning & Development

Learning & Development remains an integral part of the company’s goals to promote and foster an organisational environment that values development, diversity, and growth opportunities for all employees. We encourage our people to regularly learn new skills and during the pandemic, Yeo’s introduced a variety of online learning options.
  • Developmental Modules Training (DMT)
    We identified key areas of development and secured professional trainers to conduct these modules, with the aim of increasing workplace efficacy. Topics included Root Cause Problem Solving, Microsoft Excel Skills, Interpersonal Relationship & Communication, amongst others.
  • Self-Help Online Training Modules
    Our SHORE program supports our employees in their self-learning, with curated e-learning content promoted via email monthly.
  • Stress Resilience Workshops
    The pandemic can have an emotional toll on us. To ensure the well-being of our people’s mental health, we collaborated with e2i and Skills Future Advise (SG) to roll out a 2-hour Stress Resilience Workshop in September and October 2021.

4. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Yeo’s firmly believes in doing good and will continue to advocate programs to benefit the communities we serve. By leveraging on CSR initiatives, we have empowered a robust engagement among employees and boosted a more positive and productive working environment for them.

5. Compensation

We revamped our compensation structure and introduced clear performance-linked incentives for all Managers & above grades.

6. Forward Plans

HR Platforms: Digitalisation is the core element in today’s business. We will be launching SAP SuccessFactors HRIS Platform in the coming months. This will allow us to leverage on technology to improve various People initiatives.

We are committed to making Yeo’s a great place to work in, that is in line with its stature of being a Singapore heritage brand. We pledge to continue accelerating efforts in this area.
