It has been a challenging period for all since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. At Mazars, we have been working hard to minimize its impact on our staff and keep our business operating as normally as possible. Our HR initiatives have been at the heart of these transitions during the pandemic, and we have implemented a large number of initiatives and policies to help our employees successfully navigate the crisis.


Workplace Policies and Practice

The pandemic has affected how we work tremendously. Initially, our office went to a partial remote working policy before switching to full remote working in April 2021. Accordingly, we needed to invest in the appropriate tools and training to facilitate remote working, such as pivoting to Microsoft Teams as a communication and collaboration tool, and to Panda Docs as a platform for online templates, e-signatures, and document management. Thanks to our great teamwork and collaboration, we successfully converted the traditional paper-based work process to a primarily cloud-based and digital process in less than a month. We also implemented a new HR candidate management software called Test Gorilla to help us with the recruitment process. Test Gorilla provides a wide range of online tests, and they are flexible and challenging. The software gives us the option to assign different tests for the different skills required for certain jobs, enabling us to better assess our candidates. It also improves the candidates’ application and assessment experience with Mazars, and the feedback we get from them is positive overall.

Employee Benefits

As a result of the continued spread of COVID-19 in Thailand, in April 2021 we made the decision to implement a full-time remote working policy for the health and safety of our employees. Mazars understands that employees may incur some extra expenses when working remotely, such as internet, electricity usage, phone charges or other admin/logistics-related costs. To cover these extra costs, we provided an allowance for periods when we are working remotely full-time.

Our employees’ health and well-being are our top priority. Therefore, in addition to the benefits provided to reduce the burden of working from home, Mazars introduced many measures to protect our staff and to encourage them to get vaccinations. The measures range from providing employees with COVID-19 vaccination leave to a vaccination allowance for all employees who get vaccinated. Most importantly, we were able to secure Sinopharm vaccines for all employees and their immediate family members who wanted them.

Despite the challenging situation, our employees were committed to working together to achieve our common goals, and we have thrived during the crisis. In recognition of our employees’ hard work and dedication, we were able to award generous bonuses and salary increases this year.

We will continue to support our teams by recruiting, nurturing, and retaining talented professionals, as well as improving their engagement with the business in light of the transformations affecting all areas of business.

Employee Engagement

Mazars strongly believes that our employees are our greatest asset, and we must value their contribution and keep them happy. We regularly seek their opinions and suggestions through a series of surveys. During the pandemic, our employees identified some specific areas of concern, such as difficulties in communicating with their team and supervisor, managing work-life balance, and loss of connection with their colleagues. To address these issues, Mazars implemented a number of new initiatives, such as numerous training webinars on how to do remote work effectively, online workout sessions, online activities and competitions, and weekly webinars called “Mazars Talk” where our colleagues share their experience on different topics, such as how to deal with difficult clients, communicating with teams/clients, and giving and receiving feedback. Further, our managing partner, Rob Hurenkamp, provides a bi-weekly update so that all employees are aware of the latest developments in Mazars. Different service lines and business support functions (such as Human Resources) also contribute to this update, and present important details to our employees, so all aspects of our business are covered.  

Employer Branding

Mazars believes in reaching out to talent early. Therefore, we have a Mazars Student Brand Ambassador programme to raise awareness of Mazars as the employer of choice and of the benefits of professional qualifications. In collaboration with universities, we have been invited to be guest speakers at major events such as First Orientation and Last Orientation, as well as to provide Xero training, etc.

In 2019, Mazars in Thailand was honoured to be one of the winners of the Best Companies to Work for in Asia award. We believe this award validates our approach of acquiring and developing talented individuals, engaging with all of our employees, and implementing policies that make our firm an ideal place to work. We are determined to continue with this approach in the future to ensure our Human Resources activities support our employees’ needs as best as possible. Besides this external recognition, Mazars also celebrated our global rebranding in October 2020. For over 75 years, since the founding of our firm, caring has always been at the heart of who we are. It’s what sets us apart, makes us stand out. We look at things from different perspectives, keeping an eye on the interests of our people, our clients, and society at large. Our new brand reflects the firm we have become and that we strive to be in the future. Our Human Resources strategy and policies will continue to be at the heart of these developments.
